M12 Spoiler
Gideon's Avenger 1ww
Creature - Human Soldier (R)
Whenever a Creature an Opponent controls becomes tapped, put a +1/+1 counter on Gideon's Avenger.
"The good don't sit and wait for the evil to act. They Prepare to defend. They prepare to punish"
2/2
Furyborn Hellkite 4rrr
Creature - Dragon (M)
Bloodthirst 6, Flying
"Careful. A drop of blood here means death for us all." - Kalek, mountain guide
6/6
above are UNCONFIRMED but plausible spoilers for cards in the summer's core set, M12.
i really do like the counter subtheme, if only for my pipe dream of Doubling Season being reprinted so it's not $20 anymore and i can get like 20 of them. (every deck i'm planning could use one; Thelon EDH, +1/+1 Big Deck)
Re: M12 Spoiler
Really like both of these cards. I'm also for a reprint or even a new, but tuned, Doubling Season.

M12 Mechanics and some previews
http://www.wizards.com/Magic/Magazine/Article.aspx?x=mtg%2Fdaily%2Ffeature%2F144
Saw this on Facebook from SCGs.
Looks like Super Shroud has a name: Hexproof.
And 'goes to the graveyard' is now simple 'dies'.
Bloodthirsty is back!
As is Sorin.
Really liking all of this. Can't wait!

Re: M12 Spoiler
I pretty much hate core sets, and I'm not seeing anything to change my mind. Bring back a fun mechanic like Splice or Replicate!
Edit: Bring back 'Bury'!

Re: M12 Spoiler
I agree, Bury needs to come back. If only for nostalgia.
If was can have "dies" take the place of "goes to the graveyard from play", then we can have "bury" for "destroyed but can't be regenerated". Not that they've been printing a lot of can't be regenerated stuff lately though.

Re: M12 Spoiler
I do think Splice is long overdue on being in another set. I've always loved Bloodthirsty in the Poor Mans and Paupers formats I play online; it's just such a cool little ability.

What are you talking about, Jim? I love corsets! I love the feeling of playing with something so familiar, yet new and exciting.
I'm liking it all.

Re: M12 Spoiler
"whenever it dies" (!!)
that is so odd! i'm trying to think if i ever use that as a shortcut for going to the graveyard.... i don't even know!!
i think i do. so, good move.
i never liked bloodthirst. abilities reliant on other cards are not as fun as something self-contained sometimes.

Re: M12 Spoiler
Another preview that is also the buy-a-box promo. Hopefully I will have the money to buy a box and get this :3
With Chandra Ablaze this is +1 loyalty counter, discard Phoenix, 4 damage, and you return the Phoenix to your hand.
Love it! Already have a fanboy crush on Chandra, but this makes me love her even more.

I agree that 'Bury' should be back. Most people do say 'Die' when a creature is sent to the GY, so I can see them using that term, but (Like Brandon said) 'Bury' for a non-regenable death would be pretty interesting.
Eventually each Magic card will be one sentence max. Every ability using more than one word will be shrunk down to one word. But that is why I like Magic; the clutter in the text box is cleared up. Most card games *couch*YuGiOh*cough* would have a book's worth of text and a multitude of effects. Hooray for no keywords! /sarcasm

Re: M12 Spoiler
Discuss. People seem to either absolutely hate this card (I guess because it is so difficult for Red to deal damage) or are calling this OP.
It's a dragon, I like dragons, thus I must have this card.

"bury" is not looking to make a comeback because they've pretty much done away with the anti-regeneration clause! look at the recent core set plants.
Wrath of God --> Day of Judgment
Terror --> Doom Blade
they no longer use "It can't be regenerated". so what reason is there to bring back an old keyword action if it's only distinguishing characteristics are no longer technology used in the game?

no, seriously, hooray that YuGiOh has 20 lines of extremely tiny ass text on every card, and terrible art. it keeps Magic number one.

what convoluted, complicated keyword would you have thought of sober? banding (sorry Dan)? haunt?
the core sets are VERY important. first of all, they keep the game simple enough to appeal to a wider audience. splice couldn't possibly be core-set-able, even if they extended it to splice onto instant/sorcery instead of Arcane. (does the card go to the graveyard? what do i pay total? what are the timing restrictions?)
secondly, the top-down design allows for easier interaction for new players. look at the new Flameblast Dragon reprint. though process of a new player: "when he attacks, you can pay red mana so that he breathes fire onto my opponent".
thirdly, there is a LOT of interaction (and satisfaction) found in such simple cards, especially in Limited! putting your opponent's creatures to Sleep is really fun. Reassembling your Skeleton is instrumental in Ray Harryhousing your opponents.
i believe the changes they made in M10 are some of the most important they've ever made, and are some of the reasons Magic is enjoying such popularity right now.
Re: M12 Spoiler
oh look: confirmation from Twitter.
Dr. Jeebus
We can have "dies" (Which will create confusion when a creature is exiled) but not "bury"? Seriously, #BringBackBury! @mtgaaron @maro254
maro254 Mark Rosewater
@Dr_Jeebus @mtgaaron You'll notice that we very rarely have kill spells that cannot be regenerated from any more.

Re: M12 Spoiler
Ha, nice flavor text on the spider:
"The wild is always changing, but it does have a few constants."
-Garruk Wildspeaker
Also does seem to imply that the original Garruk will be the green planeswalker. Not that there was much doubt.

Re: M12 Spoiler
Hmmm... so Giant Growth is out. I wonder what is going to replace it. Some old variant, or a new one?

Re: M12 Spoiler
I was always a fan of the color-shifted Brute Force, though there are plenty of alternatives (like Predator's Strike, Seal of Strength, etc).

new stuff. man, Harrier at common again. that's gonna be a BITCH in Limited when someone gets 3-5 of these.
i like the mini Inkfathom Infiltrator (but NEVER as much as i liked the original). and the blood-bat is pretty cool, however i like 3-power on my Limited fliers.
Re: M12 Spoiler
I like the Outcast, if you get Bloodthirst on him a 4cc 4/4 life-linker is nothing to shrug off. The tapper is great, the rest range from decent to bleh...
Also.. GHOST BEAR!
Also.. GHOST BEAR!

i totally agree, Jim. the 4/4 for 4 is a BEAST. hit with Tormented Soul and boom, cheap beast in black. i dunno, i think that lil Infiltrator will be really good in Limited, augmented by bloodthirst. "unblockable" really means "attacks every turn" in draft.
i didn't like bloodthirst at first, but that's just because it sucked in Guildpact. looks like they're fixing it.
furthermore, i think i like this model of taking old, somewhat expert-level mechanics and adapting them for a simpler set. i think that's what bloodthirst had running against it in Guildpact; limited to two colors, had to fit in with the theme of the set, etc. these old mechanics get a nice polish in the core set.
