Re: Mirrodin Besieged Spoiler
For reference:
Consecrated Sphinx 4UU
Creature - Sphinx
Flying
Whenever an opponent draws a card, you may draw two cards.
Blessed by the hands of Jin-Gitaxias.
Illus. Mark Zug #21/155 4/6
Really really good. You don't even have to pay for the Mind's Eye.
Blessed by the hands of Jim.
I like the new wrath variant:
Phyrexian Rebirth 4WW
Sorcery
Destroy all creatures, then put an X/X colorless Horror artifact creature token onto the battlefield, where X is the number of creatures destroyed this way.
As long as one drop of oil exists, the joyous work continues.
Illus. Scott Chou #15/155
More like a Martial Coup variant.
Phyrexian Vatmother 2BB
Creature - Horror
Infect (This creature deals damage to creatures in form of -1/-1 counters and to players in form of poison counters.)
At the beginning of your upkeep, you get a poison counter.
Illus. Stephan Martiniere #52/155 4/5
Phyrexian Hydra 3GG
Creature - Hydra
Infect (This creature deals damage to creatures in the form of -1/-1 counters and to players in the form of poison counters.)
If damage would be dealt to Phyrexian Hydra, prevent that damage. Put a -1/-1 counter on Phyrexian Hydra for each 1 damage prevented this way.
Illus. Mike Bierek #85/155 7/7
I'm curious as to what these two will do to the infect archetype. They seem like bombs (well, the first one, anyway). I think it's funny how the "hydra mechanic" (each -1/-1 counter represents a dead head) and the infect mechanic (each -1/-1 counter represents irreparable damage) are on the same card.
And now, the statement that will come back to haunt me: not that impressed with Tezzeret, especially in multiplayer. I do like that in duels, you start out with some cheap artifacts and on turn 4, whack your opponent from out of nowhere. But in multiplayer, the first effect is nice, the second effect is mostly meaningless (you get 3 swings for 5), and the ultimate is great... except you can only do it every 5 turns. Watch me be proven wrong.
The sphinx, on the other hand, is a must include staple. Ha, funny when two different players have them.
Player 1: Draw for turn
Player 2: Draw 2
Player 1: Draw 4
Player 2: Draw 8
Player 1: Draw 16...
Might this be bannable, just for logistics sake? Though, on the plus side, it does help you to learn your powers of 2.

Re: Mirrodin Besieged Spoiler
fuck no, that cannot be banned! it's a "may" ability, so the non-active player would know that all those non-instants the active player is drawing are possibly going to be played against them, and therefore would know when to stop... however, it does trigger on each card drawn, not on each of its abilities triggered. if that makes any sense.
how awesome would that be in Big Deck?
haaaaa Cytoshape or Bifurcate!

Re: Mirrodin Besieged Spoiler
I don't want to ban it either. I'm just saying that if 2 players are drawing basically as many cards as they like, the game gets somewhat meaningless. Let's say they each stop at 50ish cards each. Not only does everyone have to wait while they draw the cards -
Each drawing triggers a replacement effect, so it goes back and forth drawing 2 cards each time. Keeping track of how far along they are is going to be a bitch.
Player 1: Draw 1 card
Player 2: Draw 2 cards, 2 triggers of Player 1's sphinx go on the stack
Player 1: Resolve first trigger, draw 2 cards, 2 triggers of Player 2's sphinx go on the stack
Player 2: Resolve first trigger, draw 2 cards, 2 triggers of Player 1's sphinx go on the stack
How many of each are left to resolve at this point? (and this is just the beginning)
- but they have to wait while they discard the cards. And let's not forget the fun of every other player getting wrecked by the stupid card advantage.
I hereby dub the situation when two different players have Consecrated Sphinx out as "War," referencing the card game, because that's what the game has boiled down to.
I really don't think it should be banned, but is there any contingency to be put into place when something like this happens?

Path to Exile, Doom Blade, Mortify, etc.
We could also just do Rock-Paper-Scissors and whomever loses has to sac their Sphinx.
Re: Mirrodin Besieged Spoiler
I'm also against banning it. It's a may like Steve said, so if you forget it when you get distracted oh well and since it is a creature there are more answers to removal.
I really like Victory's Herald, 6 for a 4/4 Flying that gives everything else attacking (and itself) Flying and Lifelink. Plus you have Battle Cry in the same color which makes this card that much better.
You know what I am hoping to see though that I don't think anyone else is talking about, this guy:
Of course I wouldn't want it ... How do I put this ... So shitty, but something that removes poisons counters that would probably fall into White.
Another card I am excited to grab is Myr Welder.
It's no Necrotic Ooze, but you can get activated abilities of non-creatures. Gonna be weird to see people equipping Welder onto creatures while an equipment is imprinted on it (not like it will give the equipped creature anything).
Combo this with Mycosynth Lattice and you have some crazy stuff going on ...

Re: Mirrodin Besieged Spoiler
A few new nice cards.
Kind of expensive, but no real draw back once you do get the guy. Seems good.
Really like this guy. two CMC for a 2/2 is nice to begin with, but Battle Cry slapped on him makes him that much better. Also, it's very fitting for Goblins to have Battle Cry and it fits the artwork well (artwork I liked the moment I saw it)
How do you guys feel about this card? It's either a tutor or draw three. I like it, not gonna chase after it though, if I get it, cool.

Found the source of the 9/9 Golem token:
Titan Forge 3
Artifact
3, Tap: Put a charge counter on Titan Forge.
Tap, Remove three charge counters from Titan Forge: Put a 9/9 colorless Golem artifact creature token onto the battlefield.

Tinker's a friendly kind of guy. makes new friends pretty easy there.
no one excited about this little guy?
Viridian Emissary
1g
Creature - Elf Scout Common
When Viridian Emissary is put into a graveyard from the battlefield, you may search your library for a basic land card and put that card onto the battlefield tapped. If you do, shuffle your library.

I am. I do like this guy a lot, and at common too!

im most excited about the flavor text on corrupted conscious. Karn is definately involved in the story line, plus that looks like him in the picture. Cant wait to see if he will be a planeswalker.

Read Savor the Flavor on the mothersite:

It does look pretty cool that old characters like Karn, Nicol Bolas, and even Urza are involved to some degree in this storyline.
Re: Mirrodin Besieged Spoiler
It will be fun to watch Distant Memories in play...
In non crucial moments in the game, you could bluff your opponent and draw a land, or you could draw a bomb. Hmm...

Yeah, I like the part where you don't have to reveal what card you exile, definitely room for some bluffing and trickery.
I also really like Titan Forge; it's a bit slow but worth the investment. I really am considering adding a charge-counter sub-theme to my artifact Big Deck after this set is all out.
Re: Mirrodin Besieged Spoiler
Treasure Mage - Very nice, 2U for a 2/2 that tutors for a 6+ CMC artifact. I like it.
Vivisection - Not bad, there are probably better options (Harmonize and Concentrate have no draw backs, but are 2CC, not 3C) but sacing a creature can be used to your advantage, turning our three card draw for 4 into something more.
Spiraling Duelist - Love the Vulshock and this is a nice addition.
Crush - Cheaper Shatter that doesn't kill creatures. It's good and at a common, but I was hoping to see Oxidize in this set.

Re: Mirrodin Besieged Spoiler
As far as my love for bad rares goes, I like Knowledge Pool:
Knowledge Pool
6
Artifact
Imprint - When Knowledge Pool enters the battlefield, each player exiles the top three cards of his or her library.
Whenever a player casts a spell from his or her hand, that player exiles it. If the player does, he or she may cast another nonland card exiled with Knowledge Pool without paying that card's mana cost.
Illus. Mike Bierek #111/155
A card destined to never be played...
This guy on the other hand:
Sangromancer
2BB
Creature - Vampire Shaman
Flying
Whenever a creature an opponent controls is put into a graveyard from the battlefield, you may gain 3 life.
Whenever an opponent discards a card, you may gain 3 life.
3/3
Nasty little package there.

Go For the Throat
1B
Instant
Destroy target non-artifact creature.
=================
Now that's going to be a staple, I highly recommend picking up 4 at the pre-release.

I like Knowledge Pool. I don't like that it lets your opponent do it also and it would suck if you had three lands exiled with it it ... Now that I think about it I guess I don't like it then xD

It would get very stupid very fast in a multi-player game.
Re: Mirrodin Besieged Spoiler
The green/black sword, supposedly.
Sword of Feast and Famine 3
Artifact - Equipment (M)
Equipped creature gets +2/+2 and has protection from green and from black.
Whenever equipped creature deals combat damage to a player, that player discards a card and untap all lands you control.
Equip - 2
Might this be underpowered because having protection from green and black in this set holds special meaning? Or is it even underpowered in your opinion. Discuss!

Re: Mirrodin Besieged Spoiler
It's kind of boring, especially the green ability. I was hoping something along the lines of a non-creature Regrowth or Sylvan Scrying. The black ability is okay, card advantage is card advantage.
Seems kind of underpowered compared to the old swords.
