From Cranial Extraction today, so I'm assuming it's in the official multplayer rules:

Q: In a multiplayer game, does everyone draw on their first turn, including the player who's going first?
A: Yep! And that rule's just there to keep things fair. In a one-on-one game, the player going first has a big speed advantage over their opponent. But a player skipping their first draw and the next seven players in the game getting an extra card wouldn't be fair at all.

I went digging into the Comp Rules and found this:
103.7. The starting player takes his or her first turn.
103.7a In a two-player game, the player who plays first skips the draw step (see rule 504, “Draw
Step”) of his or her first turn.
103.7b In a Two-Headed Giant game, the team who plays first skips the draw step of their first turn.
103.7c In all other multiplayer games, no player skips the draw step of his or her first turn.
I guess we've been doing it wrong. Wonder when they changed that.

Wow, I can't even remember a time when people didn't draw in multiplayer regardless of going first...and I'm old.

i didn't know this either, but at least we have been playing FAIR, i.e. everyone skipped their first draw step.
