Resleeving the Cube
Having sleeving nightmares at the moment.
My cube used to use Ultro Pro Black Matte. I recently decided to resleeve, this time double sleeving with KMC Perfect Fits. After I trashed the old sleeves and got Perfect Fits on the whole thing, I realized I was about 300 Ultra Pro sleeves short to finish.
Then I learn that Ultra Pro has discontinued their Black Matte and replaced it with a smaller sleeve (Pro-Fit, I think). Rather than buy a ton of those, I decide at the advice of antknee to invest in KMC Black Matte and ditch Ultra Pro
I bought 10 of the 80 count packs, and they just arrived in the mail yesterday. I attempted to put one of my Perfect Fitted cards into the KMC Black Matte, but it was too tight, with either the Perfect Fit bunching, or the card stopping about 4/5ths of the way and not going the rest of the way.
I've read online that many people use KMC Black Matte successfully with Perfect Fits (antkneeu ses the same configuration). Do you think I should just return them and try to get another batch, or go for a totally different brand?
Keep in mind, I'm about $100 into this already...

Re: Resleeving the Cube
Is there a chance you can find the older Ultra Pro sleeves in stock somewhere?
As for returning the KMC sleeves and getting a fresh batch... I'd say it depends on how long it'll take to return them and get the new ones. If you can wait that long, it might be worth doing. I know there can be some minor size variations in the production runs of sleeves, so different ones could work.
Did you try sleeves from more than one pack of the KMCs? Tis possible you might just have one bad pack.

Re: Resleeving the Cube
Ok, I finally fixed my sleeving problem... mostly.
I ended up finding that the KMC Matte sleeves did not fit my perfect fits for some reason. The "Super Purple" glossy ones did just fine, so I stopped by the PTQ this afternoon and dropped $65 on sleeves (after having the dealer open them up and let me sample them).
When I got home, I took all the old Ultra Pros off and replaced them with the KMC Super Purples (yay, super!). Two of the packs of 80 were cut differently, though, and it was a really tight fit for them. It took me twice as long to do that 160 or so than it did to do the whole rest of it, but I was able to fit them all, and my cube is newly double-sleeved and ready to go! I'll be at C&M tomorrow afternoon to give it a test run!
