It cost me a foil promo Damnation, 4 Oracle of Mul Daya, Martial Coup, and 4 textless promos (2 Ponder, Recollect, and something shitty).

So you could argue it cost me foil promo Damnation and Marial Coup, as the rest are garbage.

James, you still have that foil Jace? I'm still interested!

Some huge acquisitions today and yesterday. Had to sacrifice an arm and a leg for some, but I made up for it with some good trades I made.

New foils:

Mindslaver
Flametongue Kavu
Makeshift Mannequin
Duplicant
Arid Mesa
Yosei, the Morning Star

And in huger, more amazing news, I'm proud to announce the cube no longer has any proxies. Yes, I acquired a Mana Drain in decent condition from the dealers. I had to trade in most of my bulk rares and a few not-so-bulk rares, and after that I still had to pay to make up the difference. But there's no longer that one heavier and thicker card in my cube that was the proxied mana drain.

In related news, if anyone wants a great looking Mana Drain proxy, let me know. James, you know it is an uncommon, right?

Finally, it's rare that I actually add a card to the cube that wasn't in a non-foil state before, but I just picked up a Reanimate too, so it's going in.

Now, if only we could ever play it again...

The only ones I can say for sure are Gideon, Wall of Omens, and All is Dust.

Not a fan of Sarkhan II, though I may have to play with him to figure out for sure. Question: is he better or worse than Sarkhan I?

Is Dreamstone Hedron really viable? It looks to compare most to Gilded Lotus and MindStoneEtchedOracle. I don't usually have to accelerate to 9 mana in the cube, especially without fixing colors like Lotus does. And is it worth it tacked on to a nine mana Concentrate? Yes, I know Upheaval loves this card (Upheaval, float 10, Gilded Lotus, Hedron, Darksteel Ingot, you lose), but I think it might be too expensive for not enough cost. What about those decks that rush you to win on turn 5?

Not a fan of Momentous Fall, since you have to lost your best creature to make it worthwhile. And some of the better levellers will probably make their way in. Vengevine too, perhaps at some point.

Besides that, I have to look through it and see.

Dan's Cube - Page 2 Empty Re: Dan's Cube

Post  Slyphidine Sat Aug 07, 2010 10:40 am

After cubing with James last week, I went to do an update, and ran into some uncertainties.

Added fo sho:

All is Dust
Kargan Dragonlord (foil)
Wall of Omens
Aether Adept (foil)
Everflowing Chalice (foil)
Sun Titan
Grave Titan (once I get one)
Inferno Titan (once I get one)
Gideon (once I get one)
Fauna Shaman
Crystal Ball

No so sho:

Drana (sure she's a limited bomb, but that's in an environment that has maybe 3 ways to kill her. How would she fare in the cube?)
Primeval Titan (just on the off-chance of drafting mass land destruction? Or allowing 5 color to be viable?)
Frost Titan (complete the series? Plus, the lockdown is not bad)
Student of Warfare (Does white weenie want to invest the mana, or play more dudes?)
Other levelers?
Something to make red better?

Perhaps cutting:

Avatar of Woe
Nantuko Husk
Okiba-Gang Shinobi
Phyrexian Plaguelord
Exhume

Djinn of Wishes
Guile
Dismiss
Rewind
Serum Visions (replace with Preordain)
Telling Time

Arashi, the Sky Asunder
Mycoloth
Thornscape Apprentice
Elephant Guide

Barbarian Ring

Rare-B-Gone
Fires of Yavimaya
Prophetic Bolt
Goblin Legionnaire

Mogg Fanatic
Mogg War Marshal
Reiterate
Seismic Assault

Kami of Ancient Law
Griffin Guide
Pulse of the Fields

I posted an updated cube list on the first page of this post and in the link at the bottom.

Perhaps cutting feedback:

Avatar of Woe (how often does it happen you can play it for 2?)
Nantuko Husk (can go)
Okiba-Gang Shinobi (can go)
Phyrexian Plaguelord (keeper)
Exhume (im not sure on this)

Djinn of Wishes (too much work to make it worthwhile)
Guile (id keep guile over djinn of wishes)
Dismiss (keep)
Rewind (can go)
Serum Visions (replace with Preordain)
Telling Time (pretty useful)

Arashi, the Sky Asunder (too situational, can go)
Mycoloth (hasnt got his say yet perhaps)
Thornscape Apprentice (depends on how many other utility weenie tappers you got in there)
Elephant Guide (i like griffin guide better, but both could maybe go)

Barbarian Ring (cut)

Rare-B-Gone (too fun)
Fires of Yavimaya (rarely used, but im a fan still)
Prophetic Bolt (still a fan of it)
Goblin Legionnaire (think i cut it rom mine already)

Mogg Fanatic (in a removal heavy cube, maybe not needed)
Mogg War Marshal (meh)
Reiterate (not a fan)
Seismic Assault (can go)

Kami of Ancient Law (more important in your cube than in mine, ill stay mum on this one)
Griffin Guide (see elephant guide)
Pulse of the Fields (since lifegain rarely wins you a game, only if you have cards that play into the archetype should you keep it)

Thanks for the feedback, James.

I'm sad to cut Barbarian Ring, as I've always wanted to get it going with Crucible. I still have decide on a lot of the rest.

In other news, I acquired a Grave Titan last night, so it's in. Also picked up the buy-a-box Birds, and it's sweet looking.

Just checked, and as of today, my cube is 66% foil. 75% of my cube is either foil, promo, or cannot be foiled or promo-ed.

I also priced the foils I have yet to get. I'm about $1000 away. If only I had been James today, who picked up a bunch of foils at silly prices.

Cutting:

Soul Foundry
Djinn of Wishes
Followed Footsteps
Serum Visions
Arashi, the Sky Asunder
Mycoloth
Barbarian Ring
Cruel Ultimatum
Seismic Assault

Adding:

Mimic Vat
Molten-Tail Masticore
Wurmcoil Engine
Skinrender
Preordain

Any other thoughts of what to add from Scars? Also, I was thinking of adding all the Titans in. What do you think?

Post  Slyphidine Sun Dec 05, 2010 9:22 pm

Just got back from SCG Invitational in Richmond. In addition to drafting in the Draft Challenge, I also picked up an insane number of high ticket foils (and one notable non-foil). The asterisks mark cards that were not in the cube previously

White:
Elspeth Tirel*
Akroma's Vengeance

Blue:
Ancestral Visions
Waterfront Bouncer

Black:
Bone Shredder
Skinrender

Red:
Kiki Jiki, Mirror Breaker
Ball Lightning
Goblin Welder(!!!!!)
Reiterate
And the non-foil, Sneak Attack*

Green:
Fauna Shaman
Wall of Roots
Blastoderm

Artifact:
Sword of Vengeance*
Sword of Light and Shadow
Crystal Ball
Triskelion

Land:
Murmuring Bosk

Multi:
Vindicate
Pernicious Deed

You'll notice that my 5th Jace is gone now. A fair price for that foil Welder.

On top of that, I got several cards signed by rk post, including an altered Morphling.

I picked up a foil Inferno Titan, so it's going in, most likely with the rest of them (does Primeval Titan really belong? What does he do?). The Titan is currently lent to one of the players in Richmond, so when he sends it back to me, I'll put it in.

Not bad, huh?

At the prerelease, I picked up 5 difficult to find cards. Ok, 4 difficult to find, one random.

Elephant Guide

(the random)

Gaea's Cradle
Armageddon
Grave Titan
Yavimaya Elder

Very pretty!

Post  Slyphidine Sun Feb 06, 2011 12:19 pm

Did some swaps, cuts, and additions:

Out:
5 Onslaught Cycle Lands (Barren Moor, Tranquil Thicket, etc.)
Sickening Shoal
Exhume
Dance of the Dead
Kami of Ancient Law
Devout Witness

In:
5 Worldwake Manlands (Celestial Colonnade, Creeping Tar Pit, etc.)
Precursor Golem
Hero of Bladehold
Mystic Crusader
Go for the Throat
Booster Tutor (should be fun)

Also, after some deliberation, I swapped the FTV Ivory Tower for the original Antiquities version. The art is significantly better, the wording on the card is better, and it's just classic. It's my first time swapping a non-foil for a foil.

Exhume was never taken advantage of, due to its symmetrical nature, and Dance of the Dead is just a bad Animate Dead.

The two white cards are situational and reactive... ok, the Kami was at least a bear. I think the white additions are definitely stronger, though.

Sickening Shoal was either overpriced or card disadvantage, and I think Go for the Throat will be better in most cases.

The manlands are just better than the cycle lands in almost every application. They're also more exciting.

I'm curious to see how Precursor golem will be abused (Berserk, Makeshift Mannequin, PtE your own golems, Blast from the Past kicked to get 3 goblins each turn, etc.).

And finally, Booster Tutor is a card I've been meaning to play with for a while. I want to make it the option of either choosing a random 15 card pack from the cube, or actually opening a booster.

Hey Dan, sorry I didnt call back at all today, been kinda busy. I picked up a beta sinkhole last night, and I was wondering if you were interested in buying it for the cube. There is also a Foil judge version available, but the art is terrible. Call or text if you want it.

Looking to add:

Bloodghast
Thrun, the Last Troll
Sword of Feast and Famine
Mirran Crusader

Looking to remove:
Phyrexian Negator
Panoptic Mirror
Hoofprints of the Stag

Adding some more aggro elements and taking out some of the weaker control elements.
