Welcome to MTG Philly!
Welcome to MTG philly, our forum for Philadelphia Magic the Gathering players! Whether you arrived here via google, by typing in our painfully long url, or through an accident involving a random text generator, we hope you'll stay longer than the average 39 seconds a user spends on this site.
We are a group of Magic players in the Philadelphia area with varying degrees of tournament competitiveness. Most of us are pretty avid limited players, and a few of us occasionally sleeve up 60 and head to a constructed tournament. All of us are fans of some of the more casual formats, including Cube, EDH... ok, Commander; and our own concoction, Big Deck, which is pretty much a variant of the old format 5-Color. You'll find details about them on each of our forums dedicated to those formats.
In an effort to undermine the traffic flow to this site, I'd like to offer a link to mtgsalvation. If you're looking for a spoiler for the most recent magic set, this is where we get our information. Everything from our forum is just a discussion of the info we find on there. Sorry we don't have the latest scoops. Well, I'm not really sorry.
Whether you're a new player trying to find people into this new awesome game, you're a seasoned veteran looking to play more, or anything in between, we're a pretty welcoming group (ie. no assholes).
When we gather (ugh... sorry), there are a few local stores we usually meet up at:
Comics and More - Plymouth Meeting Mall: Tuesday night drafts and Sunday afternoon free-play. This is a great place with friendly, welcoming, and mature players. Many of us from the forums will show up here on Sunday afternoon for some games of Big Deck, or with the Cube in tow.
Redcap's Corner: A gaming store in Philadelphia with a huge dedication to Magic. The players here tend to be more competitive, though there's a huge Commander contingency here. If you're in the city, this is the place to go for Magic. They have many weekly events as well as special events, releases, and even the occasional PTQ or GPT.
So feel free to sign up and join in the discussion, or feel free to lurk and be one of the ubiquitous guests in the upper left corner (or even scarier, a bot!).
