BIG DECK on the Magic wiki!
http://community.wizards.com/magicthegathering/wiki/Big_Deck
i put our rules for our little format that could on the Magic community website. i also added Spawnsire of Ulamog to the banned list to hold with our "no searching for outside cards" rule.
this is why i did it:

I remember seeing that on the list when I first started playing.

I think the Price of Progress thing was a while back, sometime after I killed everyone else with it and Mirari.

Re: BIG DECK on the Magic wiki!
Yeah, I think the general rule of thumb is if you kill 3 to 5 players at once with a single spell it needs to be banned.
Re: BIG DECK on the Magic wiki!
If Anathemancer is kosher, Price of Progress should be. And besides, Back to Basics is significantly more obnoxious.
Re: BIG DECK on the Magic wiki!
ok i'll make a new poll for both of them!

Back to Basics was unanimously voted in. there was never a poll for Price of Progress. i'll make one though.

ok, i'm gonna write up a little blurb about the PURPOSE of Big Deck. why do we play it? what benefits does it have over other formats?

Re: BIG DECK on the Magic wiki!
I feel like, in the same sense as 5-color, it allows for and encourages playing mana intensive and powerful cards in an environment that can support them, while retaining the possibility of deck themes (John W's aggro big deck, John O's tribal big deck, my combo big deck).
I think it also encourages inclusiveness by banning very few cards and including the respawn rules. It's a drop-in, drop-out format. This makes it an informal thing to do between games, or something to set aside an evening to play.

Re: BIG DECK on the Magic wiki!
Big Deck is a great format for both new and old players as well as casual and competitive players. You can spend as much or as little as you want, so it can be an affordable format. Big Deck really helped me get back into Magic. I left Magic for about a year and a half, maybe two years and when I came back I barely had any cards, but i had just enough to make a Big Deck. It was a really crappy deck, but I had fun with it and I started drafting and trading to get more cards to add to my deck.
It's a really fun and open format. You can do a Paupers Big Deck, an EDH Big Deck, you can do a Tribal theme, you can do anything to this format and still have fun with it. I really love this format and I look forward every week to playing it.
