3/6 - Magic Game Day
I'm sure this is happening multiple places in the area, but Magic Game Day is happening this Saturday at Redcaps. The format is Standard, and I think the entry is $5. Participants receive a full art Hada Freeblade, and T8 receives a full art foil Kalastria Highborn. I think I'll be going, though I'm not happy with my deck choice (Valakut, yet again). I don't have much else to build.

Dan, i hope to not play you, but just out of curiosity, what do you side against a Cruel Control deck?

Even if you ramp into him as quick as turn 4, if i dont have a essence scatter, double negative, or flashfreeze in hand i can just float mana in response to him coming into play and bolt/terminate/deathmark him?

I don't play it turn 4. I play it turn 6 after you drop your Sphinx of Jwar Isle (turn 7 if my Ruinblasters have already eaten some of your land) and you need something to block my siege gang + tokens (since you countered the BB elf with your double negative). You are welcome to bolt/terminate him at that point and take 18 when my 6 mountains and valakut return to play. However, if you deathmark him in response, I'll have to call a judge.
I'd also question why you keep your essence scatters in there when they're dead against over half my deck.

Ah, see, i wasnt thinking of the Valakut reentering play angle.
First i think id have sideboarded the essence scatters out for flashfreeze anyway, but also, i doubt id tap out for sphinx unless it was my last hope, in that case the discussion of dealing with your sideboarded realm razor is far less important.

I played against Grixis at Redcaps last time. Game one I won 2 turns after being Cruel'ed, taking him from 21 to zero. Game 2 I played Razer 2 turns in a row after he tapped out on turn 5 or so, and then tapped out to kill it (remember, the lands come back into play tapped). Admittedly, it was a poor choice for my opponent to tap out on those turns. But disrupting the mana of Grixis can be really brutal. It's definitely a deck that doesn't want to start again on turn 1.
