Pre-Release Draft Deck Empty Pre-Release Draft Deck

While everyone else was busy playing 2HG or trading, I ended up in one of the side draft events; an 8-man pod doing ZEN-WWK-WWK. Here's the deck:

1x Welkin Tern
1x Pilgrim's Eye
1x Bladetusk Boar
2x Cunning Sparkmage
1x Calcite Snapper
1x Goblin Roughrider
1x Reckless Scholar
1x Voyager Drake
1x Sphinx of Lost Truths

1x Dispel
2x Into the Roil
1x Treasure Hunt
1x Aether Tradewinds
1x Vapor Snare
1x Mark of Mutiny
2x Twitch
1x Cancel

2x Wind Zendikon

1x Hammer of Ruin

1x Quicksand
1x Dread Statuary
2x Halimar Depths
5x Mountain
8x Island

The deck didn't have a lot of removal, but it was quick and had a huge number of tempo cards that really helped take the advantage and keep it. Cunning Sparkmage is amazing, the haste allows me to use it almost like a combat trick, bringing out during my 2nd main phase to knock out injured creatures. Halimar Depths is fanastic as well, when I was able to play it on turn 1 I was able to set up my next 3 turns and even out any mana issues (I managed to win off a 1-land hand thanks to that guy). Wind Zendikon is also a hell of a beating, coming out swinging on turn 2 at times.

I think blue really got a really needed shot in the arm this set, but it appears not everyone knows this yet. I got passed crazy blue and used it to go 2-0-1 before I had to run to catch my train. Hell of a lot of fun!

Congrats, Jim!

How did Dispel work for you? Seems like it would only effect potentially 4 or 5 cards in any player's deck.

I ran it as a 23rd card, never used it. I usually ended up chucking it when I overloaded my hand or cast Sphinx of Lost Truths. But I can say Twitch is awesome, as is Treasure Hunt. I managed to draw 4 cards off of Treasure Hunt, and when you can combo it with Halimar Depths it can be pretty nuts.

I'm hoping we can convince one of the stores we draft at to do ZEN-WWK-WWK sometime, it's a lot of fun.
