State Champs is in 2 weeks. Is anyone interested in testing and playing in the tournament? I have cards to lend if you're interested in playing.

If so, let's plan on getting together and trying some matchups and decks out.

I might be interested, though with Scars coming into the format I have no idea what everyone will be playing.

That's the point. Trying out some potential decks and stuff like that.

I saw this decklist on Channel Fireball:

* 4 Nantuko Shade
* 4 Gatekeeper of Malikir
* 4 Skinrender
* 3 Grave Titan
* 2 Grip of Darkness
* 2 Doom Blade
* 4 Sign in Blood
* 3 Consuming Vapors
* 3 Mind Sludge
* 2 Corrupt
* 4 Everflowing Chalice
* 25 Swamp

I'd really like to try this deck, but I'd need 3x Nantuko Shades, 3x Grave Titans, and 2x Consuming Vapors.

On SCG:

Nantuko Shade: $1.99
Grave Titan: $15.99
Consuming Vapors: $4.99

With Grave Titan taking a big hit, that seems easy to acquire. In any case, I have a Titan and Shade to spare.

Do keep in mind, if that was from Matt Nass's article, those are quite prototypes. Start with that list, test it out, and see what it needs. To me it looks pretty slow (you only have 4 answers to a turn 2 Fauna Shaman on the draw).

I've also seen some posts about a RW Myr deck that uses Battlesphere and Splinter Twin for some crazy hijinks. I might want to take a look at that as well. Are you going to be at draft tomorrow, Dan? If so, we can go over some ideas if you want.

Here's a sample decklist:

Creatures:
4 Iron Myr
4 Gold Myr
4 Steel Overseer
3 Myrsmith
4 Myr Galvanizer
3 Myr Battlesphere
2 Palladium Myr

Spells:
3 Eldrazi Monument
4 Galvanic Blast
3 Myr Reservoir
4 Splinter Twin

Land:
4 Arid Mesa
2 Tectonic Edge
2 Dread Statuary
6 Plains
8 Mountain

The whole decklist is in flux, you can find it on the MTGSalvation forums. I like the idea, but I'd probably add more MD removal like Journey to Nowhere or Lightning Bolt, and a one or two of Comet Storm for infinite Mana combos.

I most likely won't be there tomorrow, though I may drop by after the draft has started. You should proxy it up, though, and give it a test spin. See what it needs.

I'll try to have a deck proxied/together as well.

Sounds good. You going to be at AU on Friday for the release?

Possibly. Most likely, if not there, then Redcap's on Sunday.

You know, a great tool for fast building and goldfishing (and also playing over the internet) is Magic Workstation. You can find it at www.mwsgames.com, and you have to install the latest patches to get Scars on there (found those over at mtgsalvation). But it's a fast way to build your ideas and see if they pan out without an opponent (if you find yourself at turn 5 or 6 and your opponent is still doing quite well, you might want to reconsider). Just a thought.

Here's the deck list I'll proxy up for Friday:

Creatures: 21
4x Gold Myr
4x Iron Myr
3x Myrsmith
4x Myr Galvanizer
2x Palladum Myr
4x Myr Battlesphere

Spells: 12
4x Lightning Bolt
2x Journey to Nowhere
4x Splinter Twin
2x Comet Storm

Artifacts: 5
2x Myr Resevour
3x Eldrazi Monument

Lands: 22
4x Arid Mesa
2x Tectonic Edge
2x Dread Statuary
8x Moutain
6x Plains

I think I can get most of the cards I need from Chuck, but I'd like to borrow the Eldrazi Monuments if at all possible, since they are a bit pricey. I'd need 2 of them (since I already have one).

Nice. You going to be AU on Friday?

Edit: I got some Wurmcoil Engines from Chuck last night, so might put the Journey's in the SB and main deck 2x of them. Seems like an insanely good card on it's own, let alone with Splinter Twin (even if you don't get a constant sac outlet).

Just an idea I was toying with today:

4 Tectonic Edge
3 Memnite
4 Jace, the Mind Sculptor
4 Riddlesmith
12 Island
4 Misty Rainforest
4 Scalding Tarn
4 Preordain
3 Chimeric Mass
3 Unsummon
3 Inexorable Tide
4 Everflowing Chalice
4 Trinket Mage
4 Mana Leak

It's really rough, but the goal is to proliferate a bajillion times with Jace, Chimeric Mass, and Chalice on the board. So far there isn't much of a finisher besides Jace's ultimate, and Chimeric Mass (bleh). Other ideas I had were Grand Architect to power out bigger Masses, Enclave Cryptologist to loot/draw, and Contagion Engine/Clasp/other Proliferators.

Any thoughts? Am I missing something besides the deck sucking.

As an aside, I used to be awesome at building decks that ramped up to silly amounts of mana, then didn't do anything with it. Around the time of Saga/Masques, I built a deck with Thran Dynamos, Sol Ring, Mana Vault, etc., that went nowhere. I feel like this deck is an homage to those decks.

Here's my list for states:

Creatures: 23
4x Gold Myr
4x Iron Myr
3x Myrsmith
4x Myr Galvanizer
2x Palladum Myr
4x Myr Battlesphere
2x Wurmcoil Engine

Spells: 10
4x Lightning Bolt
4x Splinter Twin
2x Comet Storm

Artifacts: 5
2x Myr Resevour
3x Eldrazi Monument

Lands: 22
4x Arid Mesa
2x Tectonic Edge
2x Dread Statuary
8x Moutain
6x Plains

Sideboard: 15
4x Journey to Nowhere
2x Condemn
4x Revoke Existence
2x Safe Passage
3x Nihil Spellbomb

I did some play testing over the last week, an the deck seems to work pretty well. I'll do some more testing Friday at AU hopefully, so if you want to run some games Dan just let me know!

Edit: Still not 100% sure on the SB. I might want to run Safe Passage or some other way of preventing being blown out by Pyroclasm.

Edit 2: Copied the wrong list...

Not sure if I have time to practice, though I'd like to.

Gavin Verhey posted this on SCG. I have this deck already, except for maybe a fetch or 2, and a frost titan.

4 Fauna Shaman
1 Frost Titan
1 Brittle Effigy
4 Swamp
3 Island
5 Forest
4 Birds of Paradise
3 Trinket Mage
1 Drowned Catacomb
4 Doom Blade
4 Vengevine
2 Skinrender
1 Memnite
1 Molten-Tail Masticore
1 Chimeric Mass
4 Creeping Tar Pit
4 Jace, the Mind Sculptor
4 Misty Rainforest
4 Verdant Catacombs
4 Lotus Cobra
1 Vampire Hexmage

// Sideboard:
SB: 4 Obstinate Baloth
SB: 3 Duress
SB: 3 Acidic Slime
SB: 1 Tajuru Preserver
SB: 2 Skinrender
SB: 1 Nihil Spellbomb
SB: 1 Royal Assassin

Looks pretty fun.

UGB? Those are some of my favorite colors for magic decks! But yeah, looks pretty cool, very tool-boxy. If you come to draft on Friday I'm sure we could do some practice games, Dan.

Jim, might I suggest you play at least one Molten-Tail Masticore. Seems like he'd be able to win a few games that seem out of reach. And why isn't Tempered Steel in this deck?

Oops, put the wrong deck up, I corrected that. I'm running 2x Wurmcoil Engine, which should hopefully fill the same roll as Molten-Tail Masticore (mainly, big, splashy creature that must be answered). As for Tempered Steel, I'm not really sold on it for this deck. I could cut the Palladium Myrs, but I think adding the enchantment would push this deck more agro than combo/mid-range. I might put it in the side-board to help against red decks to help fight burn and board-sweepers like Pyroclasm.
