i think what they're saying is that you win for giving them more money, not for winning matches.

Level 31 Invoker, I think it was

Not quite. Sure, you get points for just playing in an event, but you get more for actually doing well/winning, especially at larger/higher level events. I think that will more than even out the potential quantity vs. quality issues with the new system.

Also, just by playing a crapton of events doesn't get someone invites or byes or whatever, it's the 'competative points' that do that, which are seasonal. So those do end up having to be earned by doing well in a short-ish period of time.

Not a bad system, from my first impressions. Certainly does away with people sitting out events just to make sure their rating doesn't drop.

"Stop looking up my DCI number!" said the level 35 Invoker. Smile

I believe that Steve is correct in that by paying more money (playing more sanctioned events), you earn more points. It's interesting in that there's no longer a penalty for playing more, and actually, there's a benefit. By playing more competitive events, I increase my chances of winning games, and thus improving my Competitive points.

So if I go to 10 events and go 0-2-5 at every one, I still get 50 points there. Or, if I'm good, I can go 7-0 at 3 or so events, and get the same score. I'm actually a big fan of this, except for the fact that Steve has apparently played more and won more.

nope, you still win. think of all that extra disposable income you have floating around...

the only thing i hate about this is the 3X multiplier for FNM events. we'll have to play three times as many Tuesday drafts as we would FNM to get the same amount of points.

know what though? my rating has prevented me from going to high caliber events in the past...
