draft nostalgia

Post  MidniteEffort on Wed Sep 08, 2010 1:22 pm

i think that sometime soon we should have a draft of an older Limited format. which block would you guys like to draft? don't pick anything that's insanely old or expensive. i want to head up to Q-Mart and see my guy outside to get some older packs. think from Onslaught on. i'd want to stick to an established Limited format (i.e. RAV-GPT-DIS not RAV-DIS-DIS).

pick a block and we'll move from there. pick more than one, so that we can have a secondary if i can't get the packs.

Mirrodin, Shards, or TS is all fine with me.

I just noticed that xD

Hated Kami, Onslaught is ... meh ..., Ravnica was okay, but nothing sticks out for me there, Shadowmoor/Lorwyn never played, and Zen is good, but I like Shards more.

Mirrodin = Awesome Sauce v1.0
Time Spiral was A LOT of fun and I wish I had played it more.
Shards = Awesome Sauce v2.0

I learned to draft with Mirrodin, so it would be nice to go back there. One of the most insane decks I ever drafted was from there (A nice little UB artifact deck with sword of light and shadow).

The insanest was probably Shadowmoor when I drafted 4 Silkbind Faerie, 2 Steel of the Godhead, and Swans.

Seeing as I haven't drafted anything before Shards block, I haven't a clue what to pick really. Having said that, I wouldn't mind giving Ravnica or Time Spiral a try.

I'm actually pretty sure I'm going up to Q-mart this Sunday. I know the man of whom you speak. Shall I pick something up?

Mirrodin was the first set I drafted. All I remember though was losing really bad, like ... REALLY bad ... It was at Infinite Quest and I remember that my opponents were all a-holes to me and I was like 12-13 and they were in their 20s and Dorian was there as a judge, but she also played. I got so upset losing my second game that I walked out front and started punching the edge of the curb until my fists bleed.

But, one of the judges came out and talked to me for an hour while I waited for my ride. I've always regretted not going for my judge test, because when he talked to me I wanted to become a super cool judge just like that guy.

A thought, should Time Spiral block be picked: Wouldn't it be tough/slightly expensive to get Future Sight packs at this point?

I actually think that time/time/planar chaos was the best format to draft. It would be cool to do that if future sight is price prohibitive.
