Poor Man's EDH

Post  Zuty on Mon May 31, 2010 5:34 pm

This is kind of an unofficial format. I can't seem to find a set of rules for it. I am hearing from some people that is all commons with an any rarity legendary general, others tell me it's 4 uncommon and 95 common with any uncommon creature as a general, and others tell me it's not a possible format.

Well, I am going to see if I can figure out this format and see if it is possible. I am working on the side to make an EDH deck, so this would be a nice way for me to start.

Here are the rules I'd make:

1 Uncommon Creature (This is your general, doesn't have to be a Legend)
9 Uncommons
90 Commons

For now, follow all EDH rules (found here: http://www.dragonhighlander.net/rules.php ) Any cards that seem to powerful for the format will be banned once we figure it all out.

I'll be updating this constantly as I go along with this. I will be on MWS if anyone wants to hop on there, I'll have a deck with me for it.

I remember at times seeing some stuff about upcoming events when at AU. One of the ones I recall seeing was Peasant EDH every so often. I forget what the specifics of it were though. Should you be there any time soon, they might have some info.

I remember seeing that too. Okay, so it wasn't just me. I won't be heading to AU anytime soon, I really hate going there for the RPs anyway. But when I do I will ask what the rules are.

I asked last night about the rules and the guy who was there didn't know them since he never played it. No other MTG players were there, so I am going to stick with the rules above.

1 Uncommon Creature (Your general, doesn't have to be a legend)
9 Uncommons
90 Commons

I am going by the banned list on this Blog for starters which we can edit for later. When it comes to a cards rarity, Gatherer is final. That means: Mishra's Factory is Uncommon, Exile is Common, and Sensei's Divining Top is Mythic. In the case of Desert or any other 'Special' card, go to the next highest rarity; so Deserts are Common.

You may only have one copy of a card with the same name (with the exception of basic lands). All cards must match your generals color. Any abilities or spells that produce mana that isn't the same color as your generals color are not allowed.

So if your general is Woolly Thoctar your deck can consist of White, Red, Green, or Colorless. Your deck can not include cards with the Black or Blue mana symbols on their card. This includes, but is not limited to:
-Cards that cost any amount of B and/or U to cast
-Cards with a hybrid cost where either B and/or U are present
-Cards that produce B and/or U mana
-Cards with activated abilities that require B and/or U mana
-Cards with alternative costs that require B and/or U mana (such as Kicker or Madness)
-Lands (including Basic) that produce B and/or U mana
-Split and/or Flip cards where one of the sides the color is Black and/or Blue (IE. Odds//Ends or Fire//Ice)

You can, however include the following:
-Lands that look for land types that may/may not include Swamp or Island (Such as Esper Panorama)
-Cards that look for different land types that may/may not include Swamp or Island (Such as Shard Convergence)

If anyone is interested in this, I am on MWS almost everyday. Just look for Zuty.
