well, despite getting drunk and missing the third round, i still managed to pull out a 3-1 victory in the main flight. it was a black-white Kor deck with 5 equipment.

my play of the day

i had a land with Corrupted Zendikon on it, making it a 3/3. he just dropped a Goliath Sphinx (8/7 flyer). i attack with the 3/3, and he pauses before he blocks with the big guy. i only had one land in hand, and later he told me he couldn't think of anything that could have taken it out. so, my land died, came back to my hand, and i played it for the turn. then i played Tomb Hex on the Sphinx. duder didn't see that one coming!

then me and John O went 2-1 split (with John W and David) in Two-Headed Giant (One-Headed Giant, Drunk-Headed Giant). i had a UR Allies deck (Sea Gate Loremaster is the tits), and John had a removal light GW fatty deck. that was a LOT of fun and i really want to do that every time.

our play of the day

the opponents were riding high on creature advantage and had us at 10 while they were at 31. for some reason, despite having the win in hand if they just waited it out and attacked with their flyer, they did an alpha strike. i knew they had mass removal, so i blocked to the full extent and dropped to 5. then they Day of Judgment. i had been a bit mana screwed, but i could play all three of the creatures in my hand over the next couple of turns, and John kept dropping guys too. here's the kicker: they wrathed WITHOUT ANY BACKUP. they maybe dropped 2 more creatures total before we rant them over with everything we had, sapping their 31 life in no time. GREAT comeback, i thought.

Nice plays!

So did you go 2-1-1 or 2-0-1 or 2-1. I can't tell where the split comes into it.

How was Wrexial? Did he wreck?

After trading a ton, I'm now well on my way to building a few different legacy decks. I ended up with a playset of Stifles, and one of the guys I traded with recommend I pick up some LED and just play Ad Nauseum Tendrils.

In retrospect, I perhaps should have gone UB instead of RB. My black was fantastic with some good removal and great creatures. My red had some fast guys, but nothing too spectacular (besides the Dragonspeaker Outcast, if that is his real name, Cunning Sparkmage, and Boar). My blue had Jace, 2 of those black 3/3's for 3B that draw a card when you deal damage if you have an island, the blue Zendikon, and a few other good creatures. As it was, I frequently got land or color screwed.

Still, opening $60 in cards at a $30 event. Hasn't been this good since I went to an Onslaught-Legions PTQ and opened Polluted Delta, Bloodstained Mire, and foil Akroma. When it came time to swap decks, I dropped and took my booty with me.

oh, i meant 2-0-1.

everyone was too frightened of Wrexial, so he died instantaneously.

you REALLY won out the day. i wish i had as good pulls, but i am SO satisfied with the three man-lands i came out with, one foil. also after we left i opened a foil Admonition Angel.

Sweet!

How did they kill Wrexial? Black can't Hideous End him or Tomb Hex. White has a few ways, but that's about it. Was there a Comet Storm for 8?

Hey, what happens when you have Death's Shadow and Platinum Angel out? Does he become a 14/14 when you're at -1?

Nice job, I'll have to play 2HG next time with you guys.

I went 3-1 in the seal pool, playing a sick BG ally deck with 3x Survivalist, 2x Sellsword, and a couple others backing them up. Living the Dream usually involved turn 2 Survivalist, turn 3 Survivalist, then turn 4 Sellsword. I got to live the dream... a lot. I only lost to a crazy Loam-Lion deck that swing in for the win on turn 4.

After my draft victory I got to walk away with a couple duals, a fetch, that Green Locus dude, and a couple other nice cards. Got to love opening like 20 packs in 1 day!

Death's Shadow:
* Death's Shadow's ability applies only while Death's Shadow is on the battlefield. In all other zones, its power and toughness are 13.
* If your life total is less than 0 and an effect (such as the one from an opponent's Abyssal Persecutor) is keeping you from losing the game, Death's Shadow's ability will actually increase its power and toughness. For example, if your life total is -2, Death's Shadow gets +2/+2.

Also, we need to talk a shop into doing ZEN-WWK-WWK, that's what I played at the pre-release and it was a lot of fun.

you haven't even tried ZZW yet. relax, there's time, Jim. you always cream your shorts when a set comes out.

On Saturday I went 2-2 and 3-0-1 (but ended up going 8-1 overall). I played with a Death's Shadow in my deck (my 3-0-1 deck) and never played it once.

I saw a lot of people play Black Blue and I could have maybe ran Blue my 2nd time, but i went White Black and it did really well. First deck was Green and White. Once Essential Magic puts in the new set, I'll post the decks.

What can I say, I'm a fanboy at heart! Besides, it felt really different and refereshing after playing months of ZEN-ZEN-ZEN.
