keep in the negator. the only way aggro will be good is if you keep in more aggro guys. Ive never drafted the negator because I was never sure enough that I would be able to get enough other aggro for it to work. I think you are about at the point where aggro is good.

He seems like such a liability. I've never played him, despite having drafted him, because I'm so scared someone is going to burn him and wipe the floor with me.

Replacements:

Venser, the Sojourner -> Meddling Kids
Stillmoon Cavalier -> Pillory of the Sleepless
Spellskite -> Metalworker
Beast Within -> Living Terrain
Phyrexian Metamorph -> Telling Time
Porcelain Legionnaire -> Whitemane Lion
Moltensteel Dragon -> Rough // Tumble

I want to cut something for Dismember also, but I don't know what. I'm looking at Sudden Spoiling or Phyrexian Plaguelord, but I'm agonizing over it. Any thoughts?

And minor replacement:

Foil Guildpact Mortify -> Textless Promo Mortify

I'd get ride of Sudden Spoiling, it always seemed like a pretty niche-card to me that went late in draft (well, as long as John W. wasn't playing black).

Cuts:

Avatar of Woe
Wayfarer's Bauble
Roar of the Wurm
5 Vivid Lands(!)

Adds:
Drana, Kalastria Bloodchief
10 Rav Block Shocklands

Actually, 8 Shocklands, since I haven't been able to get a Watery Grave or a Blood Crypt yet. I'd rather strengthen the color pairs than enable 5-color. Plus, they work better with the Fetchlands and Farseek.

Avatar of Woe is probably better in multiplayer, but Drana is cheaper, kills lots of stuff, and is a more solid win condition.

Also, I did a cube audit, and found I was missing Wurmcoil Engine and Figure of Destiny. They've been added back in.

And now I have a new priciest foil (and card in general) in my cube. Move over Mana Drain and welcome Foil Jace 2.

Thanks James!

Re: Dan's Cube

Post  Slyphidine on Sat Jul 30, 2011 11:24 am

Just picked up Mirror Mastery, which means I'm putting in Edric, Spymaster of Trent. I was thinking of taking Lorescale Coatl out, but then I changed my mind. Here are the cards on the chopping block in UG:

Lorescale Coatl
Mystic Snake
Simic Sky Swallower
Trygon Predator
Snakeform
Voidslime

I think Voidslime is the card to come out. It's a hard to cast counterspell that very very rarely is used as a Stifle. Plus, both Lorescale Coatl and Edric have some great uses in a green aggro deck splashing blue, while Voidslime is a corner case in a blue control deck splashing green. I'd rather give the support to aggro.

Any thoughts?

Out of those choices, I'd agree with Voidslime.
Coatl and Predator add a bit to aggro, plus the Predator blows stuff up. Sky Swallower can act as a nice finisher for either green aggro splashing blue or blue control splashing green (odd choice but it could work). Mystic Snake is just good. And I like Snakeform too much and find it too useful to recommend cutting it.

Re: Dan's Cube

Post  Slyphidine on Sat Aug 20, 2011 2:31 pm

A few big changes to my cube. I've been trying to support aggro a bit better (and by extension, red), but it always seems to be ignored. So I talked to Anthony and came up with some cards to cut and some replacements. So first, here's what I added:

Gerrard's Verdict
Blightning
Tattermunge Maniac
Putrid Leech

Burst Lightning
Chain Lightning
Arc Trail
Molten Rain
Staggershock
Firebolt

Elite Vanguard
Spectral Procession
Kor Skyfisher
Pianna, Nomad Captain
Accorder Paladin (back in!)

Elves of Deep Shadow
Fyndhorn Elves
Mire Boa

Vampire Lacerator
Vampire Nighthawk

A nice little aggro package. I tried to take out stuff that either stymied aggro, or was too midrangey and slow:

Nath of Gilt Leaf
Void
Spellbreaker Behemoth (probably I'll get a Rumbling Slum to replace it soon)

Molten Disaster
Volcanic Fallout
Desolation Giant
Goblin Sharpshooter

Warrior en-Kor
Windborn Muse
Glorious Anthem
Mobilization

Weatherseed Treefolk
Constant Mists
Spectral Force
Sprout Swarm
Imperiosaur
Ravenous Baloth

Massacre
Barter in Blood

Some heavy-hitters in there, but I want to give this a try and see what happens. Comments?

LOL @Accorder Paladin.
you strongly argued cutting it from my cube. I didnt necessarily agree but i did it anyway. If it makes yours it should almost definitely make mine.

Never ever seen or heard of Pianna, Nomad Captain before, ill have to look that one up.

I dont mind the cuts. not sure what you've added is enough to really push aggro, it remains to be seen.

You tried to go aggro yesterday, how do you feel that worked for you?

I know, I know... I'm trying Accordion Paladin out again. Just a test.

It's a significant jolt to aggro. Burn is suddenly playable, and I think I added about 10 one-drops.

My aggro decks weren't so good, but I think that's because A) I was forcing it, and B) I don't know how to draft aggro. I get caught up in fun cards and end up only drafting like 12 creatures. Clearly more testing is in order!

Pianna is a Soltari Champion variant. I'll let you look that one up too...

I'm a little sad about the removal of Karmic Guide, since it is one of my favorite creatures. I am happy to see Bloodgift Demon and Garruk Relentless though, should be fun additions. How are you handling double-sided cards though, since I know you double-sleeve your deck?
